I’m Moving to Czechia! What Do I Need to Take With Me?

First, ask yourself these questions. 

Every time I am packing, I always ask myself: 

• Have I worn it in the last month? 
• Can it be easily replaced? 
• Will I wear it during my first three months there? 
• If the answer is no, then leave it out of the suitcase. 

Packing is about balance. Some things may be irreplaceable for you but easy to replace once you are there. Some students bring their cosmetics from home, or deodorants, or shampoo, or specific stuff that is not replaceable in Czechia - or anywhere else. So, do your research about what you think you will need, and if it cannot be found here, then bring it from home. 

Important: If it can be easily replaced, you should not bringing it. 

Because, no, you do not need to bring your 20 t-shirts that you most probably would never end up wearing, because it is common to change your style once you start your new life. 

Second point: Winter clothes. 

Winter in Czechia can get cold, like, very cold. But don’t you worry, we all survive. 

In my experience I have to tell you something, if you come from a warm country, do not buy your winter clothes there. They most probably are not made for the actual winter that you might find in Czechia. Believe me, been there, done that. 

I highly recommend getting your winter clothes once you are already in Europe. Non-paid recommendation, but Uniqlo thermal clothes have completely saved my life, so check them out, but you can also find proper winter clothes in a lot of brands like Decathlon or Primark! 

I know it is super hard to decide what to bring and what to leave because moving to a new place sometimes feels like leaving our identity or ourselves at home. But I promise, 50 % of the things you think you might need, you most probably won’t even use once you are here. 

Do not forget some things that make you feel like home, like a picture of your family or your old poster. That is the most important part to pack.
