Academy of Arts Architecture & Design in Prague - Celoškolská pracoviště
UMPRUM has four architectural studios, each with a specific pedagogical focus. Since its founding, the Department of Architecture has worked closely with art departments and departments of applied art. You can develop your skills through craft techniques, sculpting, painting and drawing. The Department also provides accompanying technical education and works closely with experts and specialists across a wide range of fields. This profile makes it an unparalleled institution for educating future architects. Numerous awards won by students and graduates of the UMPRUM architecture studios in domestic and international architectural competitions provide further evidence.
For UMPRUM’s master’s degree program in English, apply electronically by March 31st. Upload pdf copies of: 1) a CV with relevant professional history; 2) a letter of intent, at least 1 page in English; 3) a portfolio of your own work related to the selected area of studies, at least 10 examples; 4) a recommendation letter; 5) your BA diploma and Diploma Supplement/Transcript of Records translated into English, or confirmation of university studies if you are in the final year of your undergraduate program; 6) proof of English with a language certificate: minimum B2 (CEFR) / 6.0 (IELTS), FCE (CE), TOEFL 50, IELTS (5.0). First-round results should be known by April 22 at the latest. The second round is an online interview and usually takes place between April 22 and May 12.
With an architecture degree from UMPRUM, you can: • use the knowledge and skills required to practise architecture in its full breadth — from design and small-scale architecture to building design, urban planning and landscape architecture, as well as experimental projects and visions in the global context of the world and the universe; • pursue independent creative work, work in teams in a wide range of roles and hold public positions that influence the development and culture of society. You also gain experience for international projects and work in an international context; • work independently as a self-employed professional or in creative architectural practices and studios, public administration, construction authorities, cultural institutions and heritage conservation bodies.
High competition for places keeps student numbers low, supporting an individual approach across studios and study programmes. Learn from renowned professors, leading authorities and international guest professors invited each semester through the Visiting Artist Studio. Each field offers specialised above-standard workshops and a wide range of theoretical classes. You can use two gallery spaces in central Prague and a historic library with a vast collection of publications in multiple languages. Students work with Czech and international manufacturers including Škoda Auto, Volkswagen, Nike, Mikov, Bomma, Preciosa, Vitra, Hermés, Baťa and Moser Glassworks. They regularly join prestigious international exhibitions and design fairs. These include Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, Ars Electronica Festival, Brussels Design September and Dutch Design Week. UMPRUM has bilateral agreements with more than 60 European and non-European partner schools. It is a member of CUMULUS – the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media. It belongs to ELIA, a globally connected European network supporting exchange and development in higher arts education.
