Technical University of Liberec - Fakulta umění a architektury
The Department of Art at the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Technical University of Liberec offers a bachelor’s degree programme in Fine Arts—Creation in Public Space. The programme focuses on creation in public space. The study programme provides theoretical knowledge and practical skills in creation in publicly shared spaces. The foundation of the programme is the exploration, analysis, and shaping of relationships between design, art, and publicly shared spaces shaped by civil society. The programme addresses the ways, procedures, and methods of creation in public space, as well as the conditions for their reception and critique. The aim of the programme is to provide students (environmental designers) with a university education, a broader perspective, and critical thinking skills in the field of public space creation. The Fine Arts – Creation in Public Space programme focuses on design at the boundaries and beyond the boundaries of individual artistic disciplines and media. The creation of contemporary relationships between these and other disciplines is directly linked to concepts and performatives of the public sphere, public (civic) activities, and initiatives—that is, to both trained artistic creation and untrained participation focused on cultivating a social, spiritual, and physical space shared by people without predefining their differences. The study programme builds on current trends in interventions in public space and prepares professionals who will actively influence the quality of public space.

Graduates of the Fine Arts – Public Art programme will find employment as designers of objects and environments in public spaces across all contexts. They may also work as independent artists and designers in the fields of fine and applied arts, as members and collaborators of art, design, architecture, and urban planning studios and groups, as well as consultants for civic initiatives and community associations. Graduates create works in public space (objects, installations, and environments) designed without limitation by classical and modern artistic, architectural, and urban planning genres and media. These may include the creation of 2D and 3D physical and digital objects, installations, and environments, as well as various proposals for interventions in urban, landscape, and mixed-use public spaces and sites, and finally, diverse forms of individual and community participation by the public in their creation.
