This Master’s study programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct independent research focused on the history of the 19th and 20th centuries. The study programme aims at the interpretation of modern European and world history. The mandatory part of the curriculum is divided into three interconnected blocks which provide students with an overview of selected topics related to the history of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the phenomenon of totalitarian and authoritarian movements. Students of this study programme have the possibility to participate in interesting internships and educational stays.

You deepen their knowledge of modern history, and become familiar with contemporary socio-political development. You learn how to analyse historical artefacts using the methods of contemporary social and humanist sciences. You will be able to conduct independent research and write scientific texts. They master two world languages. After graduation, you can find employment as historians, in museums, record offices, and the public sector, or as administrators of project activities. They can work in the media, cultural institutions, libraries, NGOs, and the public sector. After graduation, you can continue your studies in one of the follow-up doctoral programmes offered at the University of West Bohemia, or abroad.
