The connection with practice is, in my opinion, one of the biggest advantages of ŠAVŠ. The mandatory six-month internship is also a huge plus. It gave me a significant advantage at the start of my career because, after my final exams, I did not enter the workplace as a complete newcomer but already knew how things worked in the corporate world.

Keeping in touch with my study coordinators and the professors really helped with any issues I had. They are always keen on assisting students and offering advice to make sure we have a great experience in and outside of studies.

Masaryk University

I had been looking for a flexible job alongside my studies for a long time, and I no longer wanted to do work that had nothing to do with my field. I owe Masaryk University the opportunity to work as a student ambassador and a Science Slam coordinator. Thanks to these opportunities, I get to do what I enjoy and what is connected to my studies.

I’ve always been social and an extrovert – so I wanted to volunteer in everything that I can! Joining Study in Czechia was one of my best decisions. I am also a part of ERASMUS group at my university. Volunteering gives you space to grow, and grow connections and confidence, which can help you a lot in the future.

How to Handle the First Weeks at College?

When I started university, I had so many questions. How difficult would it be? How would I find my way around? Would I be able to manage everything? What exactly are course credits and assessments? My first semester was quite stressful as I gradually figured everything out.

My Journey Learning Czech

It’s 2014 and I’m standing in a small shop in Long Island City, New York - Slovak Czech Varieties. Offering products from the two countries that previously made up Czechoslovakia, they have a modest collection of Czech and Slovak books. I pick one up. I think, maybe I can identify at least one of the of words I know? Žaba, tráva, kráva, pes, brambor, opice, Akta X? I open the book. “Wtonkg woeikl kje oweiuot.” Maybe the next page? “Lkjkdgsik lksdjgls kiotwgndkjhg.” Nope - just gibberish. Am I ever going to learn this language?
